Growing a Healthy Searcy County Receives $30,752.00 from the Walmart Foundation

“Growing a Healthy Searcy County”, through a coordinated effort with the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District (NWAEDD), received a $30,752.00 contribution to assist with their summer food program. The grant – which was given to NWAEDD through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Marshall Check Presentation 1Program – will provide supplemental food for children to take home, gas cards for volunteers, advertising to promote the program, and the funding necessary to purchase commercial kitchen equipment at the Searcy County Civic Center.

“We are extremely grateful to Walmart for offering this grant opportunity so that as the need for our program grows, we will be able to continue to serve the children of Searcy County,” said Summer Lunch Program Coordinator Marie Morgan. “This generous grant will allow us to better utilize the civic center’s kitchen and will allow us to continue providing supplemental food to our county’s children.” continue reading…

NWAEDD Hosts Outreach & Opportunities Summit

NWAEDD hosted our first annual Outreach & Opportunities Summit at the John Paul Hammerschmidt Conference Center on June 4, 2015. We would like to thank all of the mayors, county judges, and other city/county representatives for attending and making it a successful event. It was certainly great to see all nine of our counties represented!

North Arkansas College provided a great venue for us at the JPH Conference Center and Western Sizzlin served a wonderful lunch. So a big thank you goes out from NWAEDD to both.

We would also like to give a special thanks to all of our presenters. Rep. Branscum and Rep. Ballinger provided some great insight on the 2015 legislative session and the special session that just occurred. Johnny James and his team from USDA, Jennifer Oakley from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, Alex Johnston from the Arkansas Department of Rural Services, Dan Hendrix from the Arkansas World Trade Center, and Drew Williams from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission all gave very informative presentations as well. Thanks to everyone for making this event a success.
