Promise Program Employs Teens with Disabilities

Arkansas Promise LogoSixty teens with disabilities from Benton and Washington Counties are on the job thanks to the Arkansas Promise Program. As reported in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper, the grant pays each participants’ wages for 400 hours divided into two summers of work.

Arkansas PROMISE is a research project open to youth ages 14 to 16 who currently receive SSI benefits. Services include: Intensive case management, two paid competitive work experiences, education and employment training and support for youth and families, benefits counseling, health and wellness training, and money to address emergency financial needs. For more information, contact David Whitten, the Northwest Arkansas Recruiter, at 479-305-4278.

Northwest Workforce Development Board to be named

With the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act the Northwest Arkansas Workforce Investment Board will become the Northwest Arkansas Workforce Development Board. Nominations for the Board will be presented to the Chief Elected Officials for approval. The new Board will meet in late July or early August.
