NWAEDD to Host Parks & Tourism Grant Workshop

The Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District and the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism will co-sponsor a grants workshop on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the conference room at the NWAEDD office building in Harrison. The workshop will focus on the Arkansas Department of Parks & Tourism Outdoor Recreation Grants Program. This program consists of three different grant categories – Matching Grants, FUN Grants, and Trails for Life Grants. A brief description of each grant is shown below. Matching Grants: The 50/50 Matching Grant Program is a reimbursable grant program. This means that the grantee will be reimbursed for half of the amount of the project cost up to the grant amount. The purpose of the Matching Grant Program is to build outdoor recreation facilities.

FUN Grants: FUN Grants are designed to assist cities and counties in developing basic neighborhood outdoor recreation facilities. Only projects to construct outdoor facilities are eligible for funding. Only unincorporated rural communities in each of the 75 counties and incorporated cities with a population of less than 2,500, as established by the 2010 census, are eligible for grant funding.

Trails for Life Grants: The purpose of Trails for Life Grants is to provide an incentive to Arkansans to develop facilities and parks in local neighborhoods and by encouraging active healthy life-styles including vigorous exercise as a part of a regular routine. Trails for Life Grants are limited to trails specifically designed for providing health and fitness benefits.
